Undergraduate Medicine

Through the service component of CPR, we became aware that curriculum across healthcare disciplines (i.e. counselling psychology, nursing, medicine, social work) lacks resilience and awareness training for students. Because healthcare practitioners (HCPs) are consistently exposed to others’ suffering, once working in the field, this lack of resilience training manifests as burnout, compassion fatigue, iatrogenic suffering and/or vicarious traumatic stress.

In response to this, CPR has developed innovative courses that are taught across all UBC sites to:

  • Enhance HCPs training in self-awareness, existing communicating skills and mindfulness practices;
  • Promote their comfort and effectiveness in interdisciplinary environments;
  • Promote professional resilience and sustainability practices.
